The Road (Cormac McCarthy). Understated and straightforward but written with beautiful language and some heartfelt moments. A dad and young son "carry the fire" to the coast in a post apocalyptic cannibalistic world.
THE SCARLET LETTER by Nathaniel Hawthorne NEW BOOK 2009 Signet Classic paperback
"The Vacationers" by Emma Straub. It's rare for me to find a book that I just do not like, but this one is it. Originally marketed as "the summer's hottest beach read", not a single one of these characters have any depth whatsoever.
"Everyone Worth Knowing" by Lauren Weisberger. From the author of 'Devil Wears Prada' another book telling the tale of what it's like working with those in the 'inner circle'. I didn't care for this one as much as her previous more successful book.
