Artist’s Wife in an Interior, Paris (1888). Charles Courtney Curran (American, 1861-1942). Oil on canvas. In 1887, Curran’s paintings began exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Academy where he continued to show his work for nearly three decades. He left for Paris in 1889 where he studied under Jules Lefebvre at the Académie Julian for two years. Upon his return to the US, the artist settled in New York and began teaching at the Pratt Institute and Art Students League.
