AC lost 5/24/44 after mid-air collusion with  AC#42-38082 after being hit by fighters. Pilot was 2nd Lt Wilton E Gease, POW,and Co-Pilot 2nd Lt Lucien O Gastineau Jr., MIA

On Sept. 3, 1944, a (PB4Y 1) Liberator plane launches to attack German submarine pens on Helgoland Island. The pilot, Lt. Ralph Spading, sets the radio controls and parachutes out of the Liberator, which is then controlled as a drone by Ensign J.M. Simpson in a (PV 1). Due to weather problems, the drone hits the barracks and industrial area on Dune Island.
