IS THERE A BUNGALOW HEAVEN? ~ MY BROTHER'S HOUSE BURNED DOWN. (IT WAS SIMILAR TO THIS ONE PICTURED.) IT WAS ENTIRELY BUILT OUT OF REDWOOD. FROM BACK-IN-THE-DAY WHEN IT WAS NOT KNOWN AS SUCH A SIN YET.  WHAT WAS KNOWN, WAS THAT IT WOULD NOT BE SUBJECT TO TERMITES. TODAY, THE COST OF A REDWOOD DOOR ALONE IS UNTHINKABLE. BTW, FIRE WAS CAUSED BY SOLAR PANELS.

Bungalow Heaven is a neighborhood in Pasadena, California named for the more than 800 small craftsman homes built there from 1900 to most of which still stand. Looks like I need to move to Pasadena

The picture is an example of a Craftsman home. This type of houses were originated entering this period.  These types of homes feature porches with overhanging roofs, tapered or square columns supporting the roof, a hand crafted look using wood and stone including inspiration from a famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

California became home to thousands of Craftsman Bungalows early in the Century - and for my two cents no home design ever beat i.

Before sensitive renovation, the Arts & Crafts lines of this hipped-roof Oakland bungalow were all but buried under a monochromatic blanket of drab blue paint (bottom). New colors of gray, terracotta, and dark green (top) accentuate the back-to-nature theme you would expect to find in a California bungalow.
