Holborn Circus in London burns at the height of the Blitz. London was bombed on 76 consecutive nights as part of the Battle of Britain campaign by the German airforce during 1940.

During night raids on the London area a house was hit by bombs dropped by German raiders, The occupants of the house, Mrs E Clayton and her daughter, Doris, were safe in their Anderson Shelter. They have been previously bombed out and were again saved by their shelter. When they were forced to leave the house they took their shelter with them.
