~Joy in the Journey~: Wednesday Workshop: Persuasive Letter Writing

Sir Cumference and the Great Knight of Angleland {A Math Must Read Mentor Text for Teaching Angles}

Here is a cool sensory observation chart...great for adding details to speculative pieces (several other charts are displayed via this link).

These free graphic organizers include webs for preparing to write, flow charts for sequencing, persuasive and expository essay maps, customizable organizers .

My students loved to write & receive shout outs. We started this around Valentines Day each year.

I started off writing them myself, but as time passed we took the time to learn how to write sincere, detailed praise and thanks and it took off from there. Looks great on coloured paper and taped to the entrance of the classroom door.

Simple classroom management strategy.

Here are links to some brain break videos that are good for older elementary kids.

LOVE this! Students are given an answer, THEY write the question!

Love this idea! (I often see similar activities for math, but this is the first time I've seen this activity used within a literacy lesson.) This could be a great exit ticket idea for the topic they just learned about.

What do teachers do during their summer break? Writing Prompt-Fun writing activity that is perfect for the end of the school year or at the beginning.

Bulletin Board Idea

Flip Flop writing idea, bulletin board to display a summer poem students write on their "flip-flop". Could do with my "short stories" beginning of year :)
