Aleksandr Sergeyevich Pushkin - b. 5/26/1799 in Moscow, Russian Empire - Founder of Modern Russian Literature. A member of the Decembrists (high born Russians who wanted to honor Russian peasants) was in exile for 6 years due to his radical political activism. Wrote Eugene Onegin, an "encyclopedia of Russian literature". Fatally wounded in a duel with his brother in law, who had tried to seduce his wife, Natalia Pushkina. Died, just two days after duel, 1/29/1837 in St. Petersburg.
