Author and playwright, Seamus Scanlon, reading The Long Wet Grass piece in the Embassy of Ireland in Washington, D.C. as part of the American Conference for Irish Studies (ACIS), hosted by Cóilín Parsons and Georgetown University. It was the winner of Fish Publishing 's flash fiction competition in 2011 - with Clem Cairns, Emjay Holmes and Jula Walton. Then it was produced as play in NYC by Nancy Manocherian's the cell in 2014. Now there is a The Long Wet Grass film. The opera is next.
The Long Wet Grass is a love story set in 1997 Ireland with the conflict of the IRA (and INLA) versus the British security apparatus as a backdrop. In Seamus Scanlon's film the protagonist, Victor, has abducted his childhood sweetheart for a minor transgression. The pull of their love and history wrestles with the push of the violence that Victor inhabits.
