Sittingbourne Heritage Museum, Sittingbourne Cache stays, found into the now-demolished Plough Inn. They are in three main sections, a back and two fronts, mainly it seems in a linen twill or maybe linen-cotton fustian. These sections are layered, with umpteen evenly sewn vertical channels for the boning, and the sections are whip-stitched together. Each front piece is broken up at the bottom by three tabs that are part of the whole. Each tab ends in a leather piece to prevent wear.

Earlier this year I visited the Sittingbourne Heritage Museum which is housed in an old shop in East Street in Sittingbou.

Stays Date: 1700–1799 Culture: American The Met doesn't give dimensions, but the lack of tabs means these could be either a child's stays, or worn by a man who wanted a trimmer figure.
