A 142-year-old lumber baron mansion at the edge of Saginaw, Michigan's downtown area has, once again, been saved from the wrecking ball, at least for a few months. The Saginaw City Council on May 9, 2016 overturned an April 25 decision to demolish the home at 633 S. Washington. The striking red brick Queen Anne has sat vacant for several years, though it once was home to pioneer Saginaw lumberman Charles Lee, Dr. Michael Ryan and later to actress and local eccentric Rosemary DeGesaro.
This amazing mansion was built in 1881 for Cornelius Kingsland Garrison at Elberon, New Jersey. The house was later owned by the Guggenheim family. The coast of New Jersey, during the Gilded Age was lined with incredible Victorian mansions, all trying to outdo each other with embellishments of fretwork,stained glass, towers, porches and exotic details.
