I grew up in a neighborhood on the east side of Cleveland known as the Kinsman area. A diverse ethnic neighborhood 60 years ago — Italians, African-Americans, Jews — many had fled Europe after World War II and had corner stores, delis and bakeries. I lived with my grandma, Sarah Stein, until I was 11. She was an immigrant from Russia who made most food items from scratch. Grandma’s real art was her baking.
