American folk singer Pete Seeger died at age 94 on Jan. 27, 2014. Seeger's grandson Kitama Cahill-Jackson told The Associated Press his grandfather had been hospitalized for six days, but remained healthy until then. The iconic folk singer involved himself in activist causes from unionism to desegregation to the Occupy Wall Street rallies of 2011. He was awarded the Kennedy Center Honors in 1994 and in 1996 was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an "early influence."
