U-Boats ~ weapon was used on Type VII U-boats and later on some Type 40 minesweepers and submarine chasers. Used a vertically sliding breech block. Many U-boats had these guns removed after 1942 and then replaced with 2 cm and cm AA guns.

Divers from the U.S coast guard took part this morning, in a delicate wreck recovery operation to bring to the surface a Nazi submarine discovered two weeks ago  at the bottom of Lake Ontario.The U-boat was spotted for the first time by amateur scuba divers in late January and they had contacted the authorities. Kriegsmarine - U-564 - Was a (220.2') Type VIIC U-Boat - Commissioned 3 April 1941 – Damaged by Bombs During a Battle with a RAF Short Sunderland off Cape Finisterre on 13 June 1943. The Sunderland was Shot Down with No Survivors. Unable to Dive U-564 was Returning to Bordeaux When it was Spotted by a RAF Armstrong Whitworth Whitley Bomber. The Bomber also was Shot Down but not before Delivering a Fatal Blow to the Sub, only 18 Crewmen Survived BFD
