The caption for this engraving reads: "General History of the Century. The small image, inserted at the base of the piece, is a view of Paris by Merian." The century involved  is the 17th (1600s). The illustration served as a frontispiece and was done by Boquet. The banner at top reads, in French: Histoire Generale du Siecle 1700. Seated in the forefront are the kings of France in the 1600s - Henry IV, Louis XIII, Louis XIV. Members of the clergy are in a semi-circle behind. Stock Photo

Love this. Interior of Room (1860s).  But what is in the forefront on the floor? Looks like a fish and bird skeleton next to a fur rug or something. Odd.

John Coltrane, jazz saxophonist and composter. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, he helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and later was at the forefront of free jazz. He is known for his work with trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk. He influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant saxophonists in jazz history. His A Love Supreme is often listed amongst the greatest jazz albums of all time. R.I.P.
