General Alexander McCarrell "Sandy" Patch (23 November 1889 – 21 November 1945) was an officer in the United States Army, best known for his service in World War II.  By World War II he was promoted to brigadier general. He commanded U.S. Army and United States Marine Corps forces during the invasion of Guadalcanal, and the Seventh Army in Operation Dragoon (the invasion of southern France). He died a few months after the end of the war.

This DVD about the 3rd Infantry Division takes place in World War II during the Fall of 1944, Europe.  On August 15th, 1944 the 3rd Infantry Division, also known as "Rock of the Marne", were assigned to VI Corps of the U.S. Seventh Army, with the assignment of participating in the invasion of the southern coast of France in "Operation Dragoon" and would land at Alpha-Beachnear Cape Cavalaire, France.
