This pupil designed and made Mrs Twit complete with glass eye in her hand. Just goes to show if you give children autonomy with art materials, these are the kinds of excellent creative decisions you will see.
Year 1 Into the woods topic. The children had several sessions, where I showed them examples of sculpture & land art that use natural materials, as well as public sculptural installations. The children went outside and used pipe cleaners to mould shapes which they hung on trees, as well as sketching and doing observational drawing. Art Club made their own response to Chris Ofili's work on canvas.
Working collaboratively on art pieces for KS1 seems to work really well as creates a buzzy 'making' atmosphere. There is a sense of joy and surprise when the children see a form become three dimensional. Wish I had taken photos of the flowers as they were made!
