Stretching 200m long and 35m wide, Troja Bridge in the Czech Republic is one of the world’s largest network arch bridges. It includes an unusually low and slim arch, which is just 0.9–1.3m deep. This is made possible by a network of 200 inclined steel rods, which link the steel box-section arch and prestressed concrete bridge deck at 1.8m intervals, providing stiffness and stability. Taken from ‘Troja Bridge, Czech Republic: a lesson in structural efficiency’ by Ladislav Sasek.
