I like an undulating flower bed that is less formal. I grew all the pink impatiens from seed in my basement under lights. My kids laughingly call it my grow op. Saves a lot of money and the plants are further ahead as I could not plant this year until late May. This picture is taken in early August and by late September the beds have been cleaned and are ready for winter and snow.
Creating stunning borders is the highlight of having a garden. Seeing them in full bloom is what makes the hours of weeding and digging worthwhile. But thriving, luscious flower borders can be expensive, especially when you are starting from scratch. Fortunately there are ways to get rich herbaceous borders on a budget. Here are my top money-saving
The garden is also filled with loads of areas for the kids to play and explore. The two older children have their own gardens which they designed themselves and which they add to each year with new features and plants. The most recent addition,a mud pie kitchen area was added behind the shed. We also try to add new features every year – some permanent, some temporary – such as a dinosaur tire garden, climbing bean teepee, wild-flower border & sun-flower alley .
