Constanze Backes (1960-)  began her music studies at the Folkwang-Hochschule in Essen. Later, she studied privately. In 1993, performing with Gardiner, she appeared as Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Théâtre du Châtelet of Paris, at the The Royal Concertgebouw, and recorded it for Deutsche Grammophon Archiv. She recorded with Gardiner also for Deutsche Grammophon Valetto in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea and Papagena in Mozart's Zauberflöte.

She graduated from the Opera Academy, Copenhagen in 2014 after studies with Prof. Eken. She debuted at the Royal Opera Copenhagen as the Owl and Dog in THE CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN in 2013 followed by Emilia OTELLO at the Royal Opera: She was soloist in Verdi Requiem performed in Berlin Philharmonie in a project with the Royal Music Conservatory, Copenhagen.
