“Frost at Midnight” is the title of one of my favourite poems by S.T. Coleridge, and the shimmering beaded trees that surround this yoke seem to be captured in frost on a cold winter’s night. Coleridge’s poem was composed on such a night, and is addressed to his son, who sleeps quietly in his cradle next to the reflective poet. It ends with these marvellous lines:

What a lovely pattern by Kate Davies! My favorite yarn: Scrumptious lace. Pattern: Frost at Midnight from the book Yokes.

This song is an inside joke between me and my hubs. Would love to make this song of wall art that looks very serious and romantic for a fun piece of art! (not the cross-stitching)

so true, because you think about & Love them the whole time you're figuring it out & making it; & that's the real gift

The Ruba’iyat of Omar Khayyam is one of my favourite poems. The lush translation offered by Edward FitzGerald conjures images of aromatic spices, beautiful textiles and sensuous geometric design. When I saw the elegant and intricate motifs based on Persian rug-making in Richard Rutt’s A History of Hand-Knitting, I decided to design a pair of mittens that would infuse whispers of Khayyam’s Persia into a snowy Canadian winter.
