Izanne Wiid's simple and beautiful contribution of butterflies etched into the surface layer of tree bark, a harmless process. These butterflies have been etched onto a set of trees that form an elf-like circle of solitude. The etchings will remain a permanent part of the trees as they grow, and I can only imagine the delight of unexpected discovery whilst strolling through the park. #‎JoziLandArt on 5&6 April 2014 #LandArt https://www.facebook.com/JoburgParks

Artists working in harmony with their environment respect the other living beings whose space they engage with. One of Site_Specific’s five key principles states: ‘The focus of Site_Specific’s motivation is ‘ecology first’ – interfacing art, culture, and nature with the overall aim of working in balance with the environments in which we engage.’

Musha Neluheni, 'RESERVED'. A simple and powerful conceptual work addressing the issue of land ownership, and which spaces are reserved for whom and for what. An important discussion in our South African & African context.

Blessing Ngobeni's 'Mother Nature'. All the art works proved difficult to photograph as they melted into their environment. Luckily professional photographers were on hand to solve these kinds of problems. Professional photography forms an integral part of the Site_Specific project, without it the works would remain in our mind's eye. #‎JoziLandArt on 5&6 April 2014 #LandArt https://www.facebook.com/JoburgParks

Gordon Froud, ‘The Rhinoceros’. The Rhino, made out of the branches of a fallen tree, was constructed as a rubbish bin. This gesture is a comment on how we treat animals as consumer (throw away) products, in many cases resulting in extinction. Scientists have listed our human presence as an extinction-level event in earth’s natural history. #‎JoziLandArt on 5&6 April 2014 #LandArt https://www.facebook.com/JoburgParks

This series of intimate portraits reflects the geographical expanse of their relationship, from their home in Goa to the white sands of the Maldives where they retreat to relax. Menon says of their photographic dialogue: “It’s very private, but it’s just a part of our lives. It’s something I don’t think about anymore because it comes very naturally to us both.”

Yannis Generalis, 'Predator Seed - Catcher Broccoli from Outer Space'. A funky contribution with a sense of humour. If I remember correctly, the base of the tree is inspired by 'Feed me Seymore!' - the flesh eating venus fly trap monster from 'Little Shop of Horrors'. #‎JoziLandArt on 5&6 April 2014 #LandArt https://www.facebook.com/JoburgParks
