The 1984 contemporary Christmas stamp was the winner of a students' stamp design project. He was  Danny LaBoccetta, a 3rd-grade student at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Jamaica, New York. (He was in 5th grade when the stamp was issued.) This was the first time in U.S. stamp history that Santa appeared on a stamp two years in a row.

The 1982 Christmas stamps featured a one for use on postcards and the usual two others. This cute scene of a puppy and kitten playing in the snow was the one intended for use on Christmas postcards and other notes.
