Mary Dunbar, nee Andrews, 1835-1887.Mary was born in Lower Canada (Quebec), and her family moved to East Whitby Township after 1843.  She would marry a man named George Dunbar, and together they had five children.  According to the 1852 census, Mary’s family was one of two Black families living in East Whitby Township. The Andrews/Dunbar/Pankhurst family has been researched, and we’ve shared their story as our latest Podcast in honour of Black History Month.
