In 1920, Anna Anderson turned up at a mental hospital in Germany as a Jane Doe. Two years later she began claiming to be Anastasia Romanov, who was believed to have been executed with the rest of the Russian Royal family. During her lifetime she was visited by many members of the royal family – some of whom supported her claim and some who dismissed her. In 2007, the body of Anastasia was discovered. DNA testing on Anna’s hair proved she was a Polish factory worker, Franziska Schanzkowska.
