Among wealthy nations, America has the second-highest rate of child poverty. Is social entrepreneurship the key to eliminating poverty?

In 2009, 43.6 million Americans, or 14.3% of the population, lived at or below the poverty level. That’s up from 13.2% in 2008, according to the Cen

n million Americans, or of the population of the United States, lived at or below the poverty level. That's up from in according to the Census Bureau, but more importantly, it is the highest poverty level recorded in the last 51 years.

Why the disconnect between recovery and poverty?

This map is very interesting to me because the states that have the most residents on food stamps, are some states i would not have thought of. Oregon for example has 20 or more percent of its population recieving food stamps.

Some GOP members tried to justify cutting funding for the food stamps program by quoting the bible. Apparently Jesus' command to feed the poor does not apply to self-proclaimed conservative Christians.

As the Republicans like to call us "DEMONCRATS"  I wish they would grow up and have a civil discourse for once.

You don't have to donate large sums of money or host charities to help people who are in poverty. Some times a simple act of kindness like giving them a simple meal is enough to help them.

This infograph shows that approximately 1 in 10 children live in poverty in Australia. There are a number of organisations in Australia that assist children living in poverty including The Smith Family, St Vincent De Paul and Centrelink (government support). I think school breakfast/fruit/meal programs are highly beneficial to children within Australia who are living in poverty as it ensures they are guaranteed at least one nutritious meal a day and can encourage children to attend school.
