The 2017 Loch Gorm from Kilchoman distillery, the oldest release from the Loch Gorm series to date. Always a popular annual release, the whisky has been created from Islay spirit exclusively matured in Oloroso sherry butts since 2009.
This is the 5th, 100% Islay release from Kilchoman distillery, produced from barley grown, malted, distilled, matured and bottled at the distillery. The whisky has been aged for over five years in a combination of fresh and refill bourbon barrels, bottled at 50% vol.
Matured for over 8 years, this distillery shop exclusive from Kilchoman distillery is a vatting of two 100% Islay fresh bourbon barrels (Cask 517 & 538), both distilled in 2008. A 'Barley to Bottle' release, filled in 2017 at cask strength, 56.8% vol.
@Marsas (Degustacija) 13/02/14 (The Laddie Ten | Islay) ..non chill filtered, not coloured, and at 46%. Not a bad start. Thick and oily with that instantly recognisable Bruichalddich maritime tang, this is a fabulous whisky that has captured perfectly the wonderful characteristics of the previous 10 y. old and somehow improved upon them. BTW, a teaspoon or two really brings out the qualities of whisky; a rich, mellow creaminess beneath a nautical tang - the whole impression is gorgeous…
