Tel sarma *****

Tel sarma *****

One of both embroidered ends of a woman’s uçkur (waistband/sash), + close-ups. From the Bursa region, late 19th c. The embroidery is ‘two-sided’ (identical on both sides of the fabric) and is executed in both ‘golden’ metallic thread and ‘tel kırma’ (motives obtained by sticking narrow metallic strips – often silver - through the fabric and folding them.). (Inv.nr. brdw038 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
