THIS DAY IN ROCK HISTORY:  August 8, 1954:  Radio DJ Dewey Phillips of Memphis station WHBQ plays "That's All Right (Mama)" and on the flip side "Blue Moon of Kentucky"   The music is an instant hit and played 14 more times that day.    Caller insist that the musician, an unknown named Elvis Presley, must be black.   Elvis is at the movies and the DJ brings him into the studio for a live interview.

THIS DAY IN ROCK HISTORY: July Elvis is goofing off and plays an up-tempo version of "That's All Right." Producer Sam Phillips tells him to do that again, records it and Elvis' first Sun Records release is made.

Elvis had tons of photo 'ops' during his Army service.Life Mag and other big circulating magazines as well as the movie mags all wanted photos and info on what life was like for Elvis in the army. My sis and I were glued to every detail!
