History: Periods of Time: Parade of people who joined the Red Guards. The Red Guards were a group of young people who were formed by the first leader of the People’s Republic of China, Mao Zedong. They purged the people in China deemed untrustworthy, leading to a chaotic period known as the Cultural Revolution.
