You see, to be poor in spirit is to have a humble opinion of OURselves; to be sensible that WE are sinners (having no righteousness of OUR own); to bear what He lays on US, to go where He bids US; to be willing to be saved only by the rich grace and mercy of God; to be willing to be where God places US, to die when He commands; to be willing to be in His hands, and to feel that WE deserve no favor from Him. "Poor in spirit" is opposed to pride, vanity, and ambition.
Colossians If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
