This is the oldest photograph of Elizabethton that I know of. The image dates to the 1800s. The antebellum courthouse was built in 1852. The West side of the Doe River, bare in the image, was not developed until after a new (15th) district was created specifically for the West side in 1897, five years after the covered bridge was built.
