History Of The Grumman F6F Hellcat
A Grumman F6F-5N Hellcat night fighter assigned to the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida (USA), in 1943/44. Night fighter version, fitted with an AN/APS-6 radar. Some were armed with two 20 mm (0.79 in) AN/M2 cannon in the inner wing bays and four 0.50 in (12.7 mm) M2 Browning machine guns in the outer.
Spitfire Mk I QV-K receives a final once-over before taking to the sky from RAF Fowlmere in 1940. The aircraft was a favourite of acting S/L Brian JE "Sandy" Lane and acting F/L Walter J "Farmer"' Lawson of No 19 Squadron RAF, the 23-year-old CO claiming 4 of 7 victories at its controls in September, the 27-year-old flight leader 2 during the same month. Its yellow spinner was reputedly a hangover from its brief service with No 7 OTU.
