Vessel in the Shape of a Figure, Peru, Central Coast, Chancay sytle…

Peru, Central Coast, Ca 800 to 1100 CE. A truly fabulous pottery whistling vessel. Twin lobed jar, each with deep brown pigment over buff base, front half in the form of a seated figure wearing decorated poncho, arms and knees in relief, conical head with small cap. Reverse is a globular jar (impressed with triple fish scene), spout emerging from top and acts as the mouthpiece to the whistle which is nestled into back of the man's head - and makes a sweet tone. 9-1/4" L by 7" H.
