A pair of English delft miniature Dry Drug Jars, c.1700, each cylindrical body painted with a label inscribed either 'E centaur; M;' or 'B Arcæi' on a complex cartouche above a seraphim, posies, and below peacocks, 10.1cm (2)  The first: electuarium centuarium minus (honey-based medicine containing ground flowering tops of herbs); the second, balsamum arcaei, was named after its discoverer, the Spanish physician, Francesco Arcaeus (1493-1567).
