I've never seen Godzilla as a traditional monster; more like a God who follows by his own code and laws, a supernatural being beyond any imagination of the humans who can only get out of his way. I think the new one implies that with the cave paintings and the occult author shown briefly, but allows differing takes on it for everybody to see it their way. The above is how I see it though.
