Small baby blanket with applique of a design on the flannel. Done in the same manner as some of the following blankets for children. To keep them light weight for summer just one layer of flannel and one layer of fabric. Make your applique on one side. Some of the smaller details on the lion were added with freehand embroidery sewing. Sew wrong sides together leaving open a few inches to turn right side out. then top stitched all around the edge to complete.

Using a little doggie design from the flannel used some paper to make my own templates for the main parts of the design. Then cut out of fabrics at hand. Using some way of attaching or fusing the application on then stitch around edge. Adding next feet and face sections, stitching in place as well. Other little details added with machine embroidery, I did free motion embroidery on some of the tiny detail I wanted. Decided on the doggie bone and bowl as extras done in same way.
