Around the year 0, Rome was no longer considered a city.  It was considered the whole civilized world and everyone else was a barbarian.  They no longer believe this, thank goodness, but there are so many well preserved structures from that time.  Each one tells an amazing story about the past, and it’s fun to discover them.  There’s enough to see and do in Rome for a tourist to keep busy for at least a week.
