"The Lone Hawk" Billy Bishop  Bishop is one of the most celebrated pilots in Canadian history. His heroics include taking out 72 enemy planes, which included an in-flight encounter with the legendary Red Baron Manfred von Richthofen, and he was also instrumental in creating the Royal Canadian Air Force.  Bishop was the recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the British Empire’s most distinguished honor.
