How to Make a Victorian Day Cap - Alterations to make it I think this is looking for some sheer cotton or cotton mesh rather than quite the full weigh fabric cotton called for. Tiny thin cotton lace trim bit less contrast.

Ca.1860-65 cap. Brim has a heavily stiffened white cotton net base with wires at front and back; it's 5" wide at slightly pointed at center top and narrowing to 1.5" wide, 8.5" down each side. Brim piece is first edged with white and black gauze-and-lace pleated trim. Layers of pleated lace and narrow velvet ribbon are then overlapped across it, ending in a layer of same pleated gauze. Civil War era snood headdress, 1860's. It is made of a wired frame covered with a delicate fine sheer brown net with white silk ribbon and lace trim edging draping down the back. There is white net surrounding the face, with white silk ribbon ruching bow trim accents. This breakfast coiffure cap has a snood style and would have been worn indoors during the morning. The cap measures 16 inches around the face opening.
