Explore Galvanized Nails, Black Thread, and more!

Artist Kaumi Yamashita crafts intricate portraits using one unbroken thread wrapped around an intricate web of galvanized nails. Created over a series of months, the multidimensional textured quality of the material adds a soft, almost organic quality to the faces. Part of her ongoing Constellation series, these works strike both for their intricate skill as well as the reinterpretation of our most aestheticized subject matter – bringing us face to face, as it were, with ourselves again.

"These gorgeous, and very clever, portraits are the work of New York based artistNathan Manire. When you see them from far away {go on, get up from your computer and take about 10 steps back} they suddenly have shading, depth and detail… but up close they are just a bunch of lovely, washy dots. Just dots {that I completely love on their own too!}" The Jealous Curator
