An old telephone exchange office from about 1915. The operators actually made the connections on the telephone by way of the pictured switchboards. It is amazing to consider that in the past every telephone call had to be routed manually by operators like the ones pictured above.
Though they were divorced, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz remained friends till the end, which came earlier for Arnaz at the age of 69. Arnaz passed away just two days after what would have been his and Lucille’s 46th wedding anniversary. The couple had a loving telephone call on that day, mostly exchanging I love yous. Arnaz had written a speech prior to his death in which he had quoted, “I Love Lucy was never just a title. “
