Sword of Alexander I    Presented: in Saint-Petersburg (the late XVIIIth century)  Dated: the XVIIth century  Culture: Ottoman, Turkey  Maker: Hadzhi Sanfar   According to a legend, this sabre, a unique specimen of the Russian arms and applied art of the latter XVIIIth century, was presented by Catherine the Great to her favourite grandson, Grand Prince Alexander Pavlovich. It came to the Armoury Chamber in 1810 together with the Imperial Arsenal’s collection.
