The Nazca lines are a series of ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert in southern Peru. Their purpose remains unknown. The hundreds of individual figures range in complexity from simple lines to stylized hummingbirds, spiders, monkeys, fish, sharks, orcas, & lizards. The lines are shallow designs made in the ground by removing the reddish pebbles & uncovering the whitish/grayish ground beneath. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.

Montegrande Archaeological Site, Peru. Spirals were an obsession for the people who lived here. Inside the remains of their civilization, there are still snail shells scattered everywhere. Honored dead were covered in them when they died, and the shape fills every part of their society. God, they seemed to have believed, was something they could reach when they crushed up Vilca seeds and freed their minds.
