Ernest Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961). Born in Oak Park, IL. His father was a physician, his mother a musician. Volunteered for duty as a Red Cross ambulance driver in Italy during WW I, was wounded by mortar fire and received Italian Silver Medal of Bravery. Author, Pulitzer and Nobel prize winner.
