Little Golden Books ~ Originally published by Simon & Schuster in 1942, Little Golden Books have become a cherished piece of childhood in the U.S. The 1st high-quality, low-priced line of children's books ever produced. Initially, just 12 titles were released, including Mother Goose, The Little Red Hen and The Poky Little Puppy. Within five months, 1.5 million copies had already been produced. Mead Schaeffer (1898-1980). The enigmatic man in the white suit and revolver. With the tropical suit and the Javanese puppet design in the background, this is presumably an illustration for a story set in the Far East. Schaeffer produced illustrations for many American magazines and numerous 'adventure' books, including 'Moby Dick' & 'The Count of Monte Christo'.
