The Carmel Market, known in Israel as “Shuk Ha’Carmel”, is the city’s biggest marketplace, and a fascinating, enjoyable place to visit. It is basically one crowded narrow alley with long line of colorful stalls standing on either side, and where vendors proudly (and loudly) presenting their goods. Here you can find almost anything imaginable for the lowest prices in the city, from different kinds of bread and pastry to delicious olives, dried fruits and exotic spices.

A night stroll in Jerusalem’s Old City is always romantic. But Cupid’s arrow seems to be pointing specifically at the Tower of David Museum in the capital. Watch the sunset from the top of the citadel and enjoy the Night Spectacular show — a breathtaking sound and light show projected directly onto the 3,000-year-old walls.

DAY The Night Spectacular at the Tower of David Museum: The walls of the Citadel serve as a stage for a nighttime show which is a celebration of sight and sound, depicting the story of Jerusalem.

But the charm is in owner and chef Uri Jeremias, who is likely to serve the meals himself and personally check to make sure you like your meal. With his thick, long, elfish beard, ample paunch and mischievous smile, Jeremias looks like he just stepped out of a Tolkien novel: Think Santa Claus by the sea.
