Evening Dress, 1916 - The role of lady's maid involved many tasks, and she was responsible for all aspects of her mistress's appearance. This dress is made of beaded gossamer-light, blue-silk tulle (a netted fabric more commonly used in veils and ballet costumes). Although it would have looked beautiful when worn, the maintenance and care of a dress like this was difficult as the fabric is extremely delicate and easily damaged.

Evening dress 1916 This evening dress is made of light blue tulle (used in veils and ballet costumes) beaded gossamer. As a result of the delicate fabric it was worn very rarely. I love this dress because it remind me of one of those ballet costumes used in theatre.

Evening Dress, 1918 - This paprika and turquoise chiffon outfit was inspired by Paul Poiret and perfectly displays the influence of the popular 'Ballets Russes' dance company, who toured in Europe from 1909 to 1929. The lightness of the fabric makes this a particularly fragile costume, as the gold lace is quite heavy. Lightweight shoes were also adopted at the time and this dress would have been worn with satin shoes with a 'Louis'- shaped heel.
