Claremont, also known historically as 'Clermont', is an 18th-century Palladian mansion situated less than a mile south of Esher in Surrey. The buildings are now occupied by Claremont Fan Court School, and its landscaped gardens are owned and managed by the National Trust.

Princess Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont, who married into the BRF, was the daughter of George Victor, Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont and his wife Princess Helena of Nassau. Unusual for a German princess of her times, she received an education to such an extent that her intelligence (she enjoyed math and philosophy) was later complimented/respected by her mother-in-law, Queen Victoria. The Waldeck-Pyrmont children’s education was largely thanks to their parents’ own intellectual abilities.
