A Seljuk Silk Lampas Robe, Iran or Central Asia, 11th/12th Century. Flaring skirt and tapered long sleeves, panels of silk form a design of registers of flowerheads with two bands of white rosettes on pink ground alternated with one register of blue rosettes on red ground, the shoulders of the robe with repeated white foliate kufic inscription on blue, traces of fur trim around the inner seams of the robe, delicate inner lining,cuffs/band around collar later additions. 41½in.

Yuan Dynasty. Damask robe with ribboned waist decoration. This Mongolian robe of the Yuan dynasty has a flat crossing collar, narrow sleeves and waist and silk tying ribbons. It is 126 cm in length, 218 cm across the sleeves, 110 cm wide at the robes skirt and 49 cm at the waist The collar is 7.2 cm wide. Eighteen silk ribbons with a width of 0.7 cm have been stitched horizontally around the waist to form a broad band some 18.5 cm in width, which visually is not unlike the modern cummerbund.
