Abandoned Hashima Island, a dilapidated metropolis, is one among 505 uninhabited islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. As petroleum replaced coal in Japan in the coal mines began shutting down all over the country, and Hashima's mines were no exception.
Off the coast of Northern California is Año Nuevo Island, a little nine acre island. It's been abandoned since the early century, which probably has to do with the island being a major breeding ground for sea lions and sea birds. Nature at its finest.
